Sudan’s General Meteorological Authority (GMA) has issued an orange-level alert for an expected severe heat wave in a number of Sudanese states, including the south of the northern state, the Nile River state and the western Red Sea state.
The body said the heatwave impact starts from Wednesday afternoon and continues until Saturday evening, with expectations of a significant rise in temperatures that could lead to health risks associated with direct exposure to sunlight.
The authority warned of the possibility of severe drought, heat stress and heat stroke, calling on citizens to take preventive measures, most notably drinking water and fluids, and avoiding external activities and field work during peak hours.
She also stressed the importance of wider dissemination of warnings and community awareness, particularly in affected areas, to reduce injuries associated with severe weather conditions.
