Sudan Congress welcomes Banjul declaration, calls for cessation of war and protection of civilians

The Sudanese Congress Party (SCP) welcomed the Banjul Joint Declaration on Sudan issued by the United Nations Independent Fact-Finding Mission on Sudan and the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, considering that the declaration reflects the scale of the humanitarian crisis and the widespread violations suffered by civilians since the outbreak of war in April 2023.

The party said in a statement issued Wednesday that the documenting of killings, violations and the systematic targeting of civilians and infrastructure confirms the seriousness of the continuation of the conflict and the spread of human suffering and collapse in the country.

The party reiterated its call for an immediate end to the war, the protection of civilians, and the opening of humanitarian corridors, as well as cooperation with relevant international and regional investigative mechanisms.

He also called for the launch of an inclusive, civilian-led political process aimed at achieving peace, justice and democratic transition in Sudan.
