Two civilians were killed and five others were injured this morning after a drone attack by the Rapid Support Militia targeted residential neighborhoods and civilian sites inside the city of al-Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan state, according to local sources and emergency rooms in the area.

The emergency room of Dar Hamer said in a press statement that the casualties were caused by the shelling that affected populated areas, noting that the toll is preliminary and may rise as field inventories of damage and human and material losses continue.

Eyewitnesses said the attack occurred in the early morning hours and led to panic among residents, at a time when the city witnessed sporadic explosions that damaged a number of service facilities and homes.

This development comes in light of the remarkable escalation in the use of drones in the war in the country, where repeated attacks on civilian areas in the province of Kordofan and other areas, further complicating the humanitarian situation and restricting access to basic services to the population.
