Dead and wounded in bloody tribal clashes in South Darfur, western Sudan

The locality of Gereida has witnessed during the past hours violent tribal clashes between groups of the Falata tribe on the one hand, and Masalit and Bargo on the other, resulting in dozens of deaths and injuries, according to military sources close to the scene of the events.

The sources said that the armed confrontations used firearms heavily, and led to deaths from all sides, along with a large number of injuries, while the violence spread to the burning of residential neighborhoods within the city.

The sources pointed out that the inventories of human and material losses are still underway, amid fears of escalating security tension and the spread of conflict in the region.
