The Khartoum State Water Authority announced the operation of more than 600 solar-powered groundwater wells in various localities in the state, as part of an emergency plan aimed at strengthening the water supply and facing the expected pressures during the summer.

The Director General of the Authority, Eng. Mohamed Ahmed Awad, said that the project was implemented with the support of the Federal Ministry of Finance, the Zakat Bureau and a number of organizations, as part of efforts to reduce the impact of electricity cuts and rising temperatures on water services.

He added, during a meeting with the wells and maintenance departments, that the Authority has started to implement precautionary measures, including continuous field monitoring of water stations to ensure their readiness to deal with any emergencies related to climate change or increased water demand.

The authority also announced the formation of a central emergency team under the direct supervision of senior management to follow up the maintenance work and enhance the operational efficiency of the stations, ensuring the stability of the water supply in the coming months.

The measures come at a time when Khartoum state is witnessing a gradual return of some residents to their areas, raising the demand for basic services, especially drinking water, amid ongoing challenges to infrastructure and public services in Sudan.
