The death toll of the attack on the village of “Kahli Zidan” in the east of the island state has risen to 15 dead, after the death of young Khalid Abdul Qader Kickel from his severe injuries, according to local sources.
The sources said that the attack was carried out by bombing the family home with a number of missiles and drones, resulting in a number of casualties, including members of the family of the leader of the Sudan Shield forces Abu Aqil Kickel.
Khaled Kickel's death came hours after the funeral of Azzam Kickel, his wife and children, who died in the same attack, in an incident that sparked widespread political reactions and warnings of its societal repercussions.
Chairman of the Popular Movement (Revolutionary Current) Yasser Arman condemned the targeting of the house and family of Kickel, saying that targeting the families of the military leaders threatens to expand the cycle of violence and opens the door to “endless community revolts,” as he put it, warning of the repercussions on the chances of peace and the social fabric in Sudan.
In the same context, the Kickel family announced its refusal to hold a traditional funeral ceremony, in a situation that was seen by observers as an indication of adherence to the option of military escalation, amid assurances from close to the family that the response will be "in the field" under the banner of the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Sudan Shield forces.
